Hohner HAG250P 1/2 Sized Classical Guitar - For Toddlers

Hohner welcomes you to the world of playing guitar. The Hohner HAG250P is a handcrafted classical guitar with an Agathis top back and sides. This wood match-up creates a crisp texture to the overall sound of the instrument. The smaller scale of this instrument (considered 1/2 sized) is specially designed with the younger player in mind and is highly recommended for the players that are starting between the ages of 5-9. This instrument also comes equipped with light gauge nylon strings for easier fingering as to not discourage the first time player. Hohner has a long tradition of supporting music education. While being in business for over 150 years Hohner has enjoyed creating instruments to help people of all ages express themselves through music. Most recently Hohner has joined forces with GAMA, an organization dedicated to bringing the joy of playing guitar into school systems nationwide. Despite it's low price, this is not a toy but a musical instrument. Many here complain about tuning that doesn't hold. The guitar ships with cheap strings meant for normal scale guitars that are not properly secured on the guitar's bridge and the tuning pegs so they lose tension, and tuning, very quickly. You'll need to order special 1/2 guitar strings (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003B0W7O8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and secure them properly to the bridge and wind them properly on the tuning pegs. Once you do that, this guitar will sing. We love this guitar.

We gave our grandson this 1/2 size guitar and the quality is excellent. He just loves it.

I'm not sure what people are expecting for 35 bucks. I actually bought it at $39....the reason I did was because I had a nice 3/4 size Yamaha JR2 that I used to use as my travel and car guitar (I am still learning and always like to have access.) Had a friend who's son wanted to start so I loaned them my JR2.. never got it back and decided to just sell it to them. Well needed to replace to have something to practice... I spent like 15 bucks on one of those string fret thingy's ...to practice cording or something.. no guitar, just a piece of cheap un-tunable neck. Well being a finger picker that didn't really help much. I read reviews on this guitar and figured for 40 something dollars (which included the new strings, the D'addario 1/2 size normal tension, which are NECESSARY), I wasn't tossing away much if it was lousy. I didn't want to leave a good guitar in the car anyway (for those times you are waiting on teenagers at their events). Also got a nice Crossrock baritone Uke case which fit it perfectly here on Amazon. For a beginner instrument, to have something small to travel with that you could loose or it could get scrunched and no biggie, to have something in the car, in lieu of one of those God awful fretting practice tools... which are a joke... for not much more money.. this is totally worth the cost. I find it a crazy good practice tool and wouldn't hesitate to get one for a young child who is interested in guitar, or someone needing a small cheap travel instrument. May just get another now that the price dropped a few dollars.

Was a bit nervous to buy a guitar for my 3 year old daughter for Christmas. She had been asking for one for months. Did I want to make a huge investment with a toy? But this is not just a toy. It is a key to a world of enriching musical discovery. Still, she is only 3. So, after reading myriad reviews on child size guitars on Amazon.com I settled on this model. There were some others in the $40-$60 price range that I was considering. I liked the fact it had nylon strings( 3 of the 6 strings are nylon) so that my daughter's fingers would not be so fatigued or chaffed from playing. Why did I pick this model? It dropped below $30 in price, that is why. After all I still had the fear that my 3 year old would touch it once, then walk away. When we took this guitar arrived, we were more than pleased. It has the crafting a fine musical instrument. It didn't feel like just a toy. My husband tuned it up, sounds just fine for a beginner guitar. My daughter loves it. She serenades us daily. This was a very good purchase. We are very pleased. Thank you Hohner!

This has been a great student guitar for my 7 year old who has started guitar lessons. It fits him well, it holds tune pretty well without having to constantly retune it, and it was a great price for a new instrument. I was worried if it would be like a toy guitar but it is a nice looking, little guitar. It doesn't resonate with the great sound that my husbands full size seagull guitar does, but it's small and lightweight and easy for my son to play and it doesn't sound bad either. His teacher was impressed with the guitar for the price I got on Amazon. Strings are easy to press down, he doesn't get too sore of fingers and the buzzing that comes from a guitar that is hard to get the strings pressed down against the fret board properly. I wasn't sure about this when I ordered it but because of amazons great return policies, decided to take a chance on it and am glad I did. For a young kid just getting started, this is a very nice looking, lightweight, small easy guitar to get started on but does not seem like a cheap toy guitar either.

Glad I read the other reviews and brought new strings with it. The strings it came with is bad, and the nylon strings have problems staying tune. After I had received the guitar, I let my son played with it a little bit. I found the sound disappointing and hollow.

Then, I changed the set of strings with a set of D'Addario. I am amazed how much greater the guitar sounds after that. Now I really enjoy this great little guitar now. Changing the string is a must. Amazing value overall.

The string I change with.

I've played guitar for 20 years so I was pretty hesitant to buy a learner guitar for my son off of amazon. It took about a week to get the top E string to hold tune, but it's been consistent since then and he's learning to play, so I'm happy.

This miniature guitar is great for the price. The way the nut sits lower than the fret is kind of odd, but as stated by another reviewer, the fret effectively is the nut. There was a weird defect with my sons guitar. The low E sat too high in the nut and the string vibrated against the fret. All the other strings were fine but the low E sounded bad when played open. I just lived with it for a while but finally decided to do something about it the other day. I took a needle file and made the groove in the nut for the low E just a little deeper. It made an obvious improvement so I went just a little deeper. It all but eliminated the vibration noise. As it came I would only give this guitar 3 stars. Their quality control is apparently not great. None the less, this guitar does play like a miniature guitar and not a toy, and if it came with the nut properly adjusted it would be a 5 star item.

This is what I wanted all along ... a little guitar for my 6 year old granddaughter that she could actually learn to play. I made the mistake of ordering a cheaper model, only to receive an inferior plastic toy that she would not have been able to play. I returned that one, and paid about $18 more for this one, and wow - what a difference. I had seen this Hohner model in the catalog for a guitar store (and it was a bit higher in price there!) and the description sounded much better. It is still the appropriate small size, but you can tune it and actually play chords on it. The neck is wood and the other materials are heavy enough for a good feel. I can't wait to watch her open it. The instrument was extremely well packaged. Wrapped up and inside a cardboard sleeve that was inside an outer box, that was inside a huge box for shipping; and thanks to Amazon Prime, arrived very quickly!

I bought this for a five year old grandchild, and I'm wishing I had gotten a 3/4 size instead. It's REALLY small, and I've been having trouble finding a decent 1/2 size case for it (seems those that say they are for 1/2 size are actually for 3/4 size). It arrived totally out of tune and I'm waiting for a tuner to arrive today, so I can't say how it sounds yet. It seems to be decent quality for a cheap Chinese product. I hope so, because I know he'll be wailing on it. If the child shows a true interest in playing, I'll buy a 3/4 Yamaha later. Wish it came in a bundle, because with the strap, case, picks, and tuner it's costing more than I expected.
