Brand Story

This was a great Idea who ever thought of it, the functionality of a mower and weed eater.

I bought this because I have a small yard and my electric mower broke after 7 years. I don't like gas power mowers or do I need one for my tiny lawn so I was thinking about buying another electric mower tell I saw this.

Its perfect for my needs, very easy to use and slips right into the mower part and detaches very easy. The Trimmer/mower is easy to clean and store in my garage, and Its pretty powerful for only being 6amp. I had no problems mowing my lawn for the 1st time this season and the grass was really tall. I posted pictures of it and the job it did here on amazon if you want to check them out.

The unit is really nice to just un-click this thing from the base and start weed eating and edge trimming and then snap it back in and continue mowing. My experience with weed eaters is if you keep them clean by rinsing them off after you use them they last along time also I store my tools in my garage and not outside which really increase's the life of them.

The trimer is single feed which I like a lot more than the double, its just easier to put more cord in it, and with the single feed the cord seems to last longer.

Set up out of the box took me around 2 mins, took me longer to locate my screw driver than it did to screw the one screw that attaches the guard to the trimmer and that was it. I was mowing within 5 mins of pulling this out of the box (its the Corded Version BTW)

I really can't say enough about this product it is a great idea and glade to have it!

After reading the mixed reviews, I was apprehensive about this purchase but am so glad I made it. I'm also very glad I decided on the CORDED version. After a recent move, I'm only responsible for taking care of my small, living-room sized back lawn. Rocky pavers in the side yard made lugging even my little push mower to the back a chore, and storage space in the garage is limited. Thus, on paper, this appeared to meet all my requirements: light enough to carry (rather than wheel) from garage to the back of the house, and very easy to store when broken apart. However, I've owned other B+D cordless products before (trimmer, leaf blower, hedge trimmer) and am familiar with their downsides: the batteries take a long time to charge, they have reasonable power for about 15 minutes and then slowly peter out, they need to be replaced about every two years, and forgetting to charge them is an all-too-convenient excuse to postpone yard work). So I decided to go with the less-popular corded version, and I'm very glad I did. It has about 2x to 3x the power of my B+D cordless trimmer, and of course, the power never dies out. In mower form, this product is incredibly easy to use and feels more like using a vacuum than a lawn mower. In fact, the similarities to a vacuum made it easy to keep the cord out of the way--hold the cord in one hand and push the mower with the other. The results were a low, even, professional mow that does not have the heavy wheel marks of a gas mower or the choppy quality of a push mower. Once detached from the trimmer, the mower deck can be washed off with a hose. The pieces are now hanging separately off hooks in my garage, taking up no floor space. Highly recommend.

I LOVE IT!!! If it died tomorrow, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

I had my doubts and thought it would be flimsy and cheap. I'm a 63 year old woman who has a lot of weed cutting to do annually for a fire break. I was tired of heavy string trimmers to haul around but afraid electric would be a pain in the tush.

When I opened the box, at first I questioned the purchase but I can honestly tell you, I've done more with this product than Black and Decker expected of the average purchaser. I'm cutting weeds on the hill and on the flat land. Some are up to my waist. On the shorter stuff (about knee high) I put it in the mower with wheels holder. It's lighter to push around than my vacuum cleaner.

When it's in the string trimmer mode, the ability to shorten (I'm 5'1" tall) the shaft and adjust the handle takes the strain off my back and arms. Well done B&D!

The string feeds flawlessly and I've had no issues with it. I've gone through 2 1/4 reels doing about 1 2/3 acres with no mishaps. It doesn't like thick green weeds and takes some concentration to cut through those. Remember, this is supposed to do sissy stuff like lawn trimming, lawns. light short weeds, etc., so I'm really working the poor little thing to death.

I have no problem adding extension cords in order to get the job done because it's so darned easy and light to use. Also, I've hit the industrial extension cord twice with the string and it hasn't put a dent in the outer casing.

What would I like to see in an updated version?

When you plug the cord into the handle, I'd like to see a snap, toggle, something to cover where you slip the cord in the slot so it doesn't come undone. The plug has loosened on a few occasions. I told you I'm not gentle with it.

I'd kill to be able to swap out the string with a blade. I'd even buy a second B&D electric trimmer that had a blade if it worked like this one does. Heck, I'd put it through the ringer as a real life tester if you wanted. Hint hint B&D. LOL!

I love this thing - it is so lightweight and easy to use. It's downright fun to transform it from a string trimmer to a mower and back. It handles everything I need it to in my small front and back yards and the whole unit is lighter than the string trimmer I used to have. In tight spots, I can just pick up the whole unit to turn it around rather than the three point turn I used to do with my very heavy reel mower. It's easy to hose down the mower dock after use. I love this thing!

I ordered this with great hesitation. I have NEVER mowed a lawn before or worked with any mower, but I just bought a house and found myself needing one since Florida has been rainy and the grass was out of control! I read the reviews and figured I would give it a try. I'm glad I did! It is compact, and works great for my smaller yard. I cut my front yard in less than 30 minutes, and (like the reviews said) the battery did die at the end. No biggie- just popped in the other battery. I do DEFINITELY recommend buying the compatible fast charger; the two batteries are plenty for my front and back yard, but the charger that comes with it takes 4 hours to charge. The fast charger had the unit ready to go within 1 hour. Overall, I think it's worth the money and a great buy for a woman (or man) who hasn't much experience with yard work and needs just enough to get the job done. Even the edger left clean lines and my lawn looks great! My dog watched from the window, and even HE was impressed! I took one star away because you have to keep the handle held down while you mow which can be a bit of pain until you're used to it. Basically like vacuuming with a trigger. Still- great product that I'd buy again.

I can't decide whether to give this a 3 star or a four star, so I would give it 3.5 stars.

My husband and I just moved into a house, from an apartment, so we have next to nothing in the way of lawn equipment. My husband managed to get into his career before finishing school, so he works full-time and goes to school part-time (there's no way I'm letting him quit school when he only has a couple of semesters left). We are paying out of pocket for his tuition. He earns just enough for us to pay all bills on time, which leaves little left over for home care equipment.

We have only been in this house for a month, and the lawn was starting to get out of control, so we needed something fast. Buying from the store was out of the question as we only have a car and didn't think a lawn mower would fit into it. Even if a local garden center had delivery options, we need a lawn mower and weed eater, but can't afford to buy both at this point.

The Black & Decker MTC220 12-Inch Lithium Cordless 3-in-1 seemed like our best option. It fit our budget and it fulfills both needs: lawn mower and weed eater. However, this is a machine that is definitely made for small lawns and not big projects like ours. At least, the lawn mower part is. The weed eater seems to be ok, even for a large yard.

- No gas fumes. No gas needed.
- Light weight and easy to use.
- Stores easily.
- No frustrating cord to pull on to get it started.
- Easy to turn on and off.

- When using the lawnmower part, the battery doesn't seem to last very long. (My front yard isn't very big. I had to switch out the battery at least once while mowing.)
- The wheels have to be manually adjusted to compensate for grass length.
- If you have a lawn that looks like mine (see photo), it's better to use an actual lawn mower. The lawn mower 'function' of this machine does not go over those large clumps of grass very easily.

- Grab the wheels to move the mower chassis up or down. (see photos)
- Always have at least one battery charging so you can switch out if you need to.
- This is NOT a vacuum, don't use it like one. (I saw a video of a lady doing that with the B&D 3 in 1.)
- The house we bought came with the lawn looking like what is in the photo, so we have quite a bit of work ahead of us. -rolls up sleeves and puts on gloves- Challenge accepted. :D

In summary:
This is basically a weed eater/trimmer with a lawn mower attachment, so the lawn mower seems to be a secondary function, for larger lawns anyway. It is meant for smaller yards and smaller areas of the yard, such as the area between the sidewalk and road. If you are a new first home owner with a limited budget and a medium to large yard, I would recommend looking at other options first; we found out from a neighbor that there is a place in our town called Neighborhood Works where you can rent garden equipment for a reasonable fee. Even if you do have a regular lawn mower and a medium to large yard, I would still recommend buying the B&D 3 in 1 as a secondary mower to do the smaller areas and hard to reach places (for a larger mower) of your yard. Overall, in my opinion, this is a good machine for the price we paid.

So far, I am very impressed! I live in Colorado, where it is hilly and uneven and rocky. There are places I just can't push a lawnmower, or ride a riding mower. This little machine fits the bill so far! I'm able to easily push it uphill in the "mowing" position, and quickly switch to trimmer when I need to. The batteries don't last all that long, but it comes with 2 batteries, and you can order more. The convenience of this machine outweighs that little inconvenience for me. The trimmer is quite powerful, and is so much lighter than a gas trimmer. I haven't had any trouble with the trimmer cord, and it really does feed itself without having to bump it, like we used to have to do. I had a friend who laughed at it when she watched me unbox it, but after she used it, she was a believer!

I bought this unit because I needed a small, lightweight mower that I could transport back and forth to my mom's house. I'm happy it came with two battery packs but it turns out my job is small enough that I only need one. So far, this little guy fit my needs; I can lift it with one hand and use it as a trimmer and edger. Below are my thoughts on each feature:

This was my primary concern. I only have to mow a very small patch of lawn. It's brand new grass, but it's grown so long. That said, the mower did well on areas that it trimmed; but rows of grass got pressed flat by the wheels, so those blades did not get cut by the trimmer. I wouldn't blame the mower for that, because I can't see that any mower could reach blades that are lying flat. I suppose as the grass blades thicken up and stand up better, I will have less problem with that. What I did in the interim was mow like I was pushing a vacuum cleaner with one hand while raking the grass blades upright with the other. The blades that were cut were even to the ground but they look somewhat swirled.

The platform can be adjusted but that's nowhere to be seen in the manual. I only knew about it because of a sticker placed on the platform, but it's not immediately clear how to do that. You have to reach under and pull the axle. There is only low and high and it comes set on high. I like the default setting.

The handle also telescopes. That is not in the instructions, either, but I played around with it, figuring there's no way they only want short people to use this thing. Basically, you unlock the handle like you want to tilt the head but instead, pull the handle out.

Changing from mower to trimmer to edger and back is super quick and easy. It's one of the best things about this combo. The trimmer action itself is superb. I have no complaints.

Ditto for the edger. It converts easily from edger to trimmer and vice versa, and it cuts like a dream.

Because I have to push like a vacuum cleaner, I wouldn't recommend this as a mower for large areas. That would be too inefficient. Small areas like what I have are fine. The trimmer/edger works like any other trimmer/edger, so if you want something primarily for trimming/edging, I highly recommend this unit.

I am a girl. I hate yard work, but just bought a house and now have to do my own maintenance. This thing is awesome, because in the chassis, the weed eater drives like a vacuum cleaner. I literally stood out in my yard and worked this thing back and forth one-handed like I was trying to leave those "I'm a grown up and can clean things" marks in my carpet/grass.

The cutout for the male prongs where an extension cord has to plug in is too small - the extension cord I bought (standard 3 prong) wouldn't fit, so I had to use an adaptor which kept falling out
Since it's electric and had to be plugged in the whole time, I further got the experience of vacuuming when the cord wouldn't stay out of the way
The weed eater wouldn't stay locked into the chassis sometimes - usually this meant I needed to knock out grass clippings

Lightweight and powers on with a single trigger in the handle - no cranking or fuel mixing
Easy to use and change uses to suit need - mower, weed eater, trimmer/edger
So versatile that this and a hedge trimmer are all I need for total lawn care

This probably wouldn't be all that useful for someone with a large yard, but my front yard is probably only about 50x75 yards and is way more dandelions than grass - I got the whole thing mowed and edged (and those dandelions had gotten about knee high) in less than an hour. Great machine for someone who doesn't like mowing and just wants to get it over with quickly.

My extension cord didn't fit! The male prongs are recessed, no ground, so only two prongs. My outdoor extension cord has in put for three prongs, of course, and it didn't fit! Had to go to the hardware store to get an adapter. Not sure why they made the opening so small!
I live in the southwest, and my backyard is mostly xeriscape. However, I have two patches of grass in the small backyard. To get the HOA to mow it cost $40 a month; to buy a full sized lawnmower seemed like messy overkill. This summer I just used a weed-eater to whack it down, took ten minutes. Easy.. HOWEVER, the lawn was bumpy and uneven when I was done. I saw this online, and I'm THRILLED. It's just a weedeater in a plastic form with wheels. Not rocket science. BUT it works wonderfully -- it allows the lawn to be "trimmed" to an even height (don't say mowed). I had used the manual reel lawn mower for a while, but when some harder weeds moved in, that lawn mower wouldn't work. This? Cuts down everything! The key is you will not "mow", no rows. The actions are more like "vacuuming." That's what it feels like. You can't do long rows even if you try -- its not how it works. A back and forth is what you need. Plug it in and go, quiet, no smoke, easy. And, very small to store. Works better than I thought!
