My 9 year old loved making her cupcake. We will definitely be purchasing the larger set.

ROCK n' ROLling Sweetlings Kit
Includes ONE plastic ice cream cone.

The box is cute, lots of color and had my granddaughter wanting to dig into immediately.
What's in the box?
* Ice Cream Cone Base
* Whipped Clay (lrg) blue (sm) yellow
* Star Tip & Cap
* 3 Sided Background
* Glitter, Stickers, Sprinkles
* Blue Plastic Tweezers
* Full Color Instructions
We got everything out of the box, cut the individually packaged items open, placed the sprinkles in a ramekin and read through the directions. The included instructions are done in full color and are easy to follow. To avoid difficult clean-up later, We put a towel down to cover the floor and used thin, plastic cutting board squares to cover our work area on the counter.

We squeezed the whipped clay, swirling around, in tight circles that barely overlap...we used the yellow as a highlighter, a smaller, thinner 'icing', til we got to the top, finishing with quick, clean cut offs. The clay begins to set in about 10-11 minutes.
She enjoyed putting the decorations on, but found the tweezers more trouble than help with the tiny round, plastic toppings.
(I wish there were more stickers with different eye and mouth choices. However, what's included is satisfactory for a single cone kit.) You can get creative with the extra clay.

This is something different... It's engaging and imaginative.
My granddaughter summed up our experience this way, "we've never done anything like this before, But he needs a buddy, let's do it again."
I can recommend this item without reservation. (I am ordering several for Christmas gifts. ]

Man oh man, I wish we had toys like this when I was a little girl! Except I don't think we could have had it at my house, since my little sister put everything she touched right into her mouth. I know she wouldn't have been able to resist this blue cupcake "frosting" and the sprinkles. This particular little "rock star guitar player" comes with a guitar and a stage, stickers to decorate with, the blue clay frosting with a star tip, a pair of horns, plastic sprinkles, and plastic tweezers to help place the stickers and horns once the clay frosting has been applied. There is also a small tube of white whipped clay to help decorate. Even the stage can be decorated with the clay and the stickers. It will need to dry overnight, at least, before being handled. I suggest hiding it in a cabinet to dry completely, since out of sight is out of mind.

It is definitely a crafty collectible, it is not really a toy. It is made more for creating and saving, and perhaps collecting the other cupcakes in the line to decorate a bedroom or playroom. It would have to be displayed high to keep it out of reach of those small children thinking it is edible.

I am not sure about the affordability of this product, since it is a new launch and I can't find the price of it yet. I don't think I would pay more than $10 for it. But it was fun while the fun was being created!

First off, my kids got frustrated that the guitar slides around and doesn't stay in place. Also it was missing one of the tubes of clay. But we had enough left over from another set to make it work.

In case you don't know, this is "whipped" clay (a little bit like playdough), dries kindof like a hard foam, and you put it on like cake decorating.

These are a fun idea, a great way to work with you hands, and held my kids attention. There's no doubt it was fun. The colors are cute, the characters are adorable, and it's a neat concept.

It's not messy at all - the clay wipes off with a damp paper towel, it's impossible to spill, and requires very little setup or cleanup. However, it came with glitter (we don't allow glitter inside, so we skipped that part).

Having said that, it's basically a 20 minute activity. And this stuff is sticky, it's difficult to get it on evenly (a child won't be able to lay the foundation by themselves - even an experienced cake decorator had some problems at first). We stil had a bit left over, so we also decorated some empty pill bottles, and ended up with 2 extra characters.

It comes with a background stage to encourage play when it's done drying, and my kids played with them for a day or two, but it really has no lasting play value. They were in the trash by the end of the week.

$13 is a little steep for just one character. They have other play sets with more characters. If you're going to get a Sweetling, I would say the rockin' ice cream guy was our least favorite. But for $13, you might also think about going to the dollar store and getting a bunch of 4-packs of playdough along with stickers, glitter, etc.

Always looking for fun arts and crafts to do with my daughters, I decided to give this Alex DYI Sweetlings a try. At first, my kids thought this was a Shopkins set (and they do look similar). Next, they thought they could eat these decorative cupcakes, but fortunately the smell from the clay frosting will keep most kids from even trying. While the sprinkles look real at first, they feel as plastic as they are. They do make for some nice decorations on the clay, and one of my girls even used them for noses.

The tweezers are amazingly adept at their job, whether it's picking up a sprinkle or placing a foam accessories, which my girls mostly put on just using their fingers. This particular ice cream cone friend is "ROCK n' ROLling," and just like Shopkins, there are multiple characters of various styles and sizes.

The clay frosting comes with a tip just like a baker uses to frost a cake. If you mess up, just wipe away, but once it's dry that's it, this stuff sticks! I suggest using a tray or at least newspaper underneath in case of spills, which you know will happen with small round beads and glitter. Once the frosting is dried on the cone and any that was put on the backdrop, children can have their cone sing and dance. The girls enjoyed decorating this Sweetling mini friend so much that we decided to try the larger Sweetling Sprinkle Shop.

The Sweetlings Frost-A-Friend sets are beyond fun! This cute little set includes everything you will need to decorate a sweet little friend. The Whipped Clay is smooth and pretty easy to decorate with - I am not saying it is going to look like you are a master cake decorator as ours did not but it was still so much fun! From there will add the stickers, which are of face features and other accessories to bring your sweetlings to life! There are sprinkles - we did not use these as I did not want to clean up that mess. You can use the included tweezers to add the accessories, sprinkles, and stickers or just use your fingers.

I worked with my 2.5 year old and 4 year old on these - obviously they are under the recommended age and I would abide by that recommended age if you do not plan on being 100% involved.

There were just a few little things that made this a bit difficult - the clay tubes were hard to squeeze and once they were about half empty it took a lot of force to get them to squeeze out.

It took about two days for them to completely dry and they ended up in the trash after sitting on my counter for a few weeks.

Really fun and easy craft. My daughter had a blast doing this. Of course she loves crafts in the first place. You can literally start decorating with the included icing upon opening the box. Sprinkles and glitters included, and a plastic tweezer to put the more delicate stuff.

Just be aware that the surface of frost hardens in around 10 minutes and so you have the hurry a bit putting the decorations and accessories. Once it hardens, it feels like rubber and so it would not poke those little fingers. You may want to put the guitar later when it is all dry or not put it at all. My daughter even decorated the guitar with the icing and decorated a cake made of air dried clay with the left over.

Lots of fun. My only gripe is that it is a bit expensive. It would be nice if you get 2 cones to decorate and more of the icing.

This is such a fun kit and the "food" looks real. It comes with everything you need to make what's pictured on the box, but if you have a creative kiddo, the contents could be used to make their own "sweet" invention. This one is bright pink and has lots of sparkles, beads, etc. My 8 year old is very crafty and had no problem following the directions and doing it all by herself. There were some supplies left over that allowed her to make a few more little doughnuts as well. The only caution I would offer is that if you have littler kiddos too, keep these away from them b/c if the crafter puts it together as directed, it really does look like a tasty treat you could eat! Overall, super fun, girly crafting kit!

My granddaughter already owns all three of these toys. There is this Rock n' ROLling Ice Cream Cone, Unicorn donut and the Her MAJESTling cupcake. She recorded a video review for her channel, but it was too large to add to this review.

The kit comes with everything needed:

Large Whipped Tube
Star Tip and Cap
Small Whipped Clay Tube
Decorative Background Glitter
PVC Decorative Stickers
Plastic Sprinkles
Ice Cream Cone Base
2 Horns
Guitar
Tweezers
Instruction Guide

My granddaughter loves these kits and is looking forward to Alex toys coming out with more.

We love these decorative little cup cake figurines. They are cute easy and fun to do. It's really the same concept as decorating a real cup cake except it's more like a puff paint material. Like a few people mentioned this is something you decorate then keep as a decoration. They really aren't durable enough after drying to play with but their cute to look at. My daughter loves hers.
